An Upward Swing in IM Usage within Large Companies

Share

Do you remember the old days when you had to pick up a phone or visit a coworker in person if you had something to say? This was not too long ago. After that, email came along and changed interoffice communication in many ways. Now, the new kid on the block is instant messaging. Even though companies have been using instant messaging for many years, lately, this trend has seen an upward swing. This is particularly true among large companies with hundreds of employees, all of whom are trying to stay in touch with one another without wasting valuable time and resources.

There are many reasons that instant messaging is trending upwards, and will probably continue to do so. For one, company leaders are pushing this idea on employees. They know of the benefits that instant messaging offers, and for this reason they are telling employees to check it out. With the ability to setup a company wide system, by using a program such as Brosix, getting started is not nearly as difficult as it once was.

Additionally, employees have fallen in love with instant messaging because it allows them to work more efficiently while also talking with more than one person at the same time. Sure, this can cause problems as well, but they do not outweigh the many benefits.

There has definitely been an upward swing in IM usage within large companies over the past three years. Is this trend going to continue? Unless something else comes around, it is safe to say that instant messaging will be one of the many interoffice communication methods of choice for many years to come.
