Business and Pleasure: The Case for Separate IM’s
Keeping business and pleasure separate has become something of a lost art for the modern worker in this constantly on the go digital age. It used to be that when you left the office that was it. The workday was over, you could get a dry martini and relax, but with the onslaught of technology you are never really more than a text message away from your boss. There are however some steps that you can take to reduce that constant availability and today we are going to look at one. Today, we are going to talk about why keeping your business and personal IM’s separate is important.
Reason 1: IM’s are more like emails then phones
The odds are good that you have 2 emails (at minimum) one for work and one for home. Why, because there is no cost to do so and because you will keep your email even if you move onto another job. The same is true of IM’s. The reason most of us don’t do this with phones is cost.
Reason 2: Your profile, avatar and user name
Your coworkers (and boss) don’t need to know you are “single and on the prowl” or that you have a secret DBZ fetish. Keeping them separate will keep those embarrassments from happening.
Reasons 3: Work won’t intrude on your time off. If you leave an IM on you are telling people you are available. Unless you want your boss to think that evenings and weekends belong to the company keep it separate.
I hope you enjoy using Brosix for you business needs. Of course, if you love Brosix and you want to have only one IM client you could just use two different sign on names. After all very few of us have only one email address these days.
