Business Instant Messaging for Three Occasions
When it comes to business instant messaging the only rules that you have are those set forth by your company. If they are fine with you using your messenger at all times of the days, so be it. With that in mind, some people have a difficult time deciding when to use a business instant messenger and when to rely on other communication methods such as email or telephone.
Here are three situations in which business instant messaging may benefit you:
1. When you just have a quick question. Do you need to send a quick follow up note to a coworker? Is a question on your mind, but you do not have the time to talk on the phone? No matter what, if you are trying to be quick and efficient you can always send an IM.
2. Long chats. In some cases you will need to speak with another person for an extended period of time. This eliminates email, and puts you in position to choose between instant messaging and a telephone conversation. Why not give instant messaging a try? This is a good way to have long chats because you can clearly see what the other person is saving, while also having the ability to save the communication.
3. Bring in more than one person. Just like a conference call, you can bring more than one person into a chat room. This is a great idea if you need to have several employees working together on a particular project or problem.
These are just three of the occasions when business instant messaging makes sense. Can you think of any others?
