Client Communication and IM Client: Be Careful of what you say

Do you have permission from you company to communicate with clients via instant messenger? If so, you are not in the clear to do and say whatever you want. In other words, you still need to be very careful about what you say and how you communicate. You have to be very careful when communicating with clients no matter how you are doing it. One slip-up and you could find yourself facing a situation where the client no longer wants to work with you.

When communicating via instant messenger the one word you cannot forget is: professionalism. You need to be professional with your communications no matter what, and this definitely holds true when speaking via instant messaging. Many people forget to be professional because the “IM atmosphere” is often times more laid back. While it is fine to use abbreviations, you need to keep up a certain level of professionalism. You should still use good English, while avoiding curse words at all costs. In other words, speak via instant messages the same way you would in person.

Also, keep in mind that instant messaging conversations are recorded. There is nothing wrong with this as long as you don’t say something you don’t mean. Again, don’t say anything via an instant message that you would not say in person.

There are many benefits of communicating with clients via an instant messaging program such as Brosix. This gives you the chance to speed up communications, while making it easier on both parties to be readily available. As long as you are courteous and professional you should be just fine!
