Client Communication via an Instant Messenger
Most people are well aware of the fact that they can communicate with friends and coworkers via an instant messenger. But did you know that you can do the same with clients, if they are on the same page?
Here are three steps to take if you want to use an instant messenger to communicate with clients:
1. Get their thoughts on the matter. If your client is not interested in IM communication you should leave well enough alone for the time being. While it can be beneficial, you must let your client make the decision.
2. Refer them to your instant messenger of choice. Once they begin to use the same program as you, it is simpler to communicate day in and day out. Not to mention the fact that you can assist them with any questions that may come up.
3. Get started, but don’t ignore other methods of communication. Now that you are up and running, make sure both parties are actually using the instant messenger. Of course, there will still be times when a phone call, meeting, or email is a better option.
You will never be able to communicate with every client via instant messenger. That being said, there is a chance that a few are more than willing to give this a try – if you can help them along the way.
