Corporate Instant Messenger Training: Is it necessary?

Share

One of the potential holdbacks of implementing a corporate instant messenger is the time that it will take for all employees to become familiar with the application. While this is a valid concern, it is not one that should stop you from getting started. Believe it or not, training employees to use a corporate instant messenger is not as “necessary” as it sounds.

Above all else, you need to choose a tool that is simple to learn and understand. There is a big difference between an instant messenger that is geared towards the corporate environment, and one that is used by the masses and may be  more difficult to understand and implement. When you put the right program to use, employees will begin to catch on soon enough.

How tech savvy is your company? This is one question you can ask yourself before you choose a corporate instant messenger. If they are familiar with email and a variety of software programs, it goes without saying that they will have no problem using an IM tool.

Of course, you may find that some people do need training – and there is nothing wrong with this. How much time you put into this depends on many factors including the knowledge of the employee, as well as the corporate instant messenger that you choose. Somebody who is willing to learn and able to pick up on new ideas should be able to get started after a brief tutorial. This is particularly true if they are presented with an easy to follow program that is designed with the user in mind.

In most cases, implementing an instant messenger in a corporate setting is a seamless task.
