In today’s connected world, many people feel great anxiety from being away from their phones and computers for a large amount of time. However, during the weekends when we are supposed to be relaxing and enjoying time away from the office, this anxiety can prevent us from fully enjoying 2 days off each week.
There are some strategies that can help combat this that works as a compromise between being totally glued to your phone and being totally unplugged and not available.
- Check Email Once Per Day: Having a set time to check email once per day on the weekend can help ease anxiety. You know that you will never go longer than 24 hours without seeing your inbox, but only spending about 15-30 minutes each Saturday and Sunday to check your email won’t cut in too much on your personal time.
- Finish Your Work: Don’t leave the office on Friday without feeling like you can totally shut off your computer and be done with all projects and emails. Find a good stopping point with everything. This will help ease stress.
- Set the Next Week: Once you have finished your work for Friday, schedule the next week, starting on Monday. Create a daily to-do list for each day as well as noting meetings and other deadlines.
These are just some of the ways to stay accessible on weekends. Being prepared and setting boundaries can help ease the anxiety and stress many business people feel when it comes to staying accessible on the weekends.
