IM Communications: Use Short, Easy to Follow Sentences

Share

When it comes to communicating with instant messaging you probably realize how beneficial this can be. But remember, this only works in your favor if the other party can understand what you are saying, and vice versa. There are many ways to make instant messaging easier on you, and you should take advantage whenever possible.

First and foremost, make sure you use short sentences. Think about how much easier it is to use short sentences as opposed to those that drag on for five to ten lines. Remember, an instant messaging box is only so big. You don’t want to clog up the space with run on sentences that will confuse your recipient.

Also, you don’t want your instant messages to be overly complex. This does not mean that you should communicate like you are a teenage girl, but you definitely want to keep things as simple and as easy to follow as possible. If you plan on discussing the many aspects of a project, including complex details, you would be much better off meeting in person or making a phone call. That being said, you can definitely use instant messaging to start the conversation and to setup a better time to talk.

There is no denying that you can save time and better communicate with co-workers by using a high quality instant messaging application. But if you want to make the most of every message you need to use short, easy to follow sentences. This will make for a more effective and efficient conversation.
