Instant Messaging as Vital Communication
Instant Messaging has come front and center in the court system- making the history books as a new form of communication in criminal court cases. According to an article about a trial in New Jersey, a deaf woman needed to testify against a man that was caught breaking into her place of residence and then punching her in the face. Because an interpreter was not available at the time of the trial, and the victim could not read lips very well, she communicated with the court reporter through instant messaging on a laptop inside the court room. The reporter read the witness’ statements out loud and her responses were also displayed on a projection screen in the courtroom. To read the full news article, click on the link below:

I’ve brought this story to the Brosix blog not only because it is interesting, but because it also demonstrates the growing ways instant messaging is used in a variety of settings. IM is so useful- from catching up with friends to providing a communication solution, it is here to stay. As more and more people send and recieve IMs, it will only continue to grow and remain one of the easiest, most efficient, and fastest ways to communicate with anyone, anywhere.
