Technology has changed the way we interact with one another through Social Media, Email and Instant Messaging.

Many people are not only able to catch up with their high school buddies much easier, but they can also communicate with family members that may be out of town, and even business employees.

You should keep in mind that when you send an instant message, you should consider your overall safety when doing so. Here are a few tips to keep you safe.

The first thing you should keep in mind to never provide any personal information in an IM conversation. This can include your password, credit card information and anything else that may be damaging to you in the future.

You should also never display your e-mail address or screen name in public areas such as an online community, internet directory sites, or even a stranger.

You should never send any personal or private instant messages at your workplace.

Last but not least, if you plan on meeting a stranger that you’ve only met through an instant message exhange, you should be very careful. Don’t meet them alone. It’s a good idea to bring either a friend or family member with you and stay in a public place.
