Reasons Why Your Boss Does Not Want IM’s How to Handle Those Objections

Inevitably when an employee comes up with a good idea management is in no hurry to implement it you can see the benefits clear as day and keeping good communications with your clients means better responsiveness and more sales. Instant communications with other employees means you have information and you can respond more quickly due to circumstances which is something every organization needs in this economy. None of that however, seems to matter to your higher ups for some reasons you can’t quite put your finger on their not ready to step up to the plate and move your organization to the next level. You racked your brain but all you can figure out is that there must be some reasons why some objections that they are hiding from you that keeps them from doing this. To help you make a case for Brosix today we are going to look at some common management objections and ways you can lay your managers fears a bit that way you can get your way and seem like a team player.

Objection 1: I think my employees are going to be goofing off at work, talking to their friends, spending a lot of time wasting my money as I pay them to goof off.

A common fear among bosses is that they are going to be paying you to play on an IM. This would actually be a problem if you were using something like AOL instant messenger, or MSN Live Messenger. When you use these services people can just access a personal friends list quickly and easily, no work required. Brosix, however, differs. It’s an IM that a company can set up certain users and only allow those users to be spoken to. Say coworkers in another regional office or clients that are pre approved. This way your boss can be rest assured that you aren’t trying to hit on your girlfriend or figure out what’s for dinner. If you think this might be your bosses objection be sure to stress limited access the next time you bring the subject up.

Objection 2: I don’t know much about internet security but, I feel like IM’s especially the ones that file sharing and screen shots. These could be security risks for our organization and how would I know if you aren’t leaking confidential information, either by accident or on purpose.

This objection stems for lack of knowledge more than anything else and in reality this proves a need to overcome you need to explain to your boss how Brosix is used and that it’s not on a generic network but on the company’s private network that your IT department has copiously secured. Your VPN you are protected my that encryption and not just the standard encryption that comes with the free version. Anything you send like files, screen shots, and even just your plain old IM are safe.

Objection 3: Getting Brosix up and running would cost too much money, we can’t afford to spend 10,000 dollars on a solution for real time communications.

What you want to do in this case is get some basic information and a price to quote. Brosix has sales professionals will be more than happy to give you all the information you need to show your boss this isn’t going to be a high cost endeavor. IM’s are as much budget friendly as they are web friendly. When you show your boss real numbers he can make a real decision based on them.

Objection 4: I’ve never used an IM so they must not be suitable for the business environment.

This is probably your hardest one because it’s not really a misconception, but more of a technology bias. If it hasn’t been done before it must not be good to do now. At this point what you want to do is focus on the fact that would be innovative for the company while showing how others have successfully use IM’s. If you can’t find any analogous examples in your field pull from other fields and focus on how it improves customer response and customer satisfaction and loyalty. You want to show your manager how this new technology can be applied to old concepts that they already understand. Let’s be honest if you can’t change the horse spots but you can  view it from a different angle. Show your boss how IM’s can be used to expand customer groups that you haven’t reached before, this could be a sure fire way to get them past their bias. If that fails point out that Brosix has a wide variety of video tutorials available for new users, it could solve that “I’m not up to speed with technology” issue more than what it is “this isn’t fitted to business issue” because managers will disguise those as I am sure you know.

Objection 5: I like to hear the voice of the person I am talking to. It helps me to understand where they are coming from and so much gets lost in context and I am not sure IM’s are going to help.

I know that this one sounds hard but Brosix offers voice chats and voice conferences which means that with a voice headset your boss can still get all that lovely context and it wouldn’t hurt to mention that it’s a lot cheaper than paying for conference calls as well.

There you have it. That’s how to handle the most objections to instituting an IM in the workplace, now figuring out which objection(s) your boss has that’s up to you. But I am sure you can do it.
