Screen Sharing Vs Co-Browsing
So what’s the difference between screen sharing and co-browsing? Why would you want both? Well, technically, you could get away with only using the screen sharing tool in Brosix, but the added feature of co-browsing can sure come in handy in certain situations.
Screen sharing
The screen sharing tool allows either you to share what is on your screen or the other user to show you their screen. This is useful for when something breaks and you can fix it faster than you could explain it. Sometimes a user simply needs to “show” you rather than “tell” you what is happening. Screen sharing allows you to see it as it’s happening and be a part of troubleshooting, training, or whatever the case may be.
Co-browsing
The primary difference with co-browsing is that you only share an internet browser with the other person. This is important for several reasons. The primary reason is that people use different internet browsers. A secondary reason is security.
First, some people use Internet Explorer 6 while others use Internet Explorer 7, while still others use Firefox or even Chrome, not to mention Safari, Opera, or the less common browsers. So, just because you think a button or link is in one spot, another user might see it in a different place on the page. Co-browsing means you are using the same exact browser, so you see the exact same rendering of the web page.
Second, if you don’t want to share your entire computer with another user and just need to show them something on the company website or other page, co-browsing will allow you the added security or privacy of only sharing the a browser window. If you are a manager, you don’t want an instant messaging popping up about a subject that someone else shouldn’t see. In this case, co-browsing would be a better option.
In sum…
Brosix brings both screen sharing and co-browsing capabilities to the table so you can reach for the tools you need when you need them. Screen sharing is the catch-all tool for troubleshooting. But if you have problem that can be solved using a web browser, the co-browser tool will view web pages exactly the same way and give users more privacy as well.
