Instant messaging is system of communication that is designed to be, well, instant. An instant message is blips of communication sent to recipients instantly. Instant messaging is similar to e-mail in that it can send quick messages, but different in the way it is presented.
Oftentimes with e-mail there is a turnaround time. With instant messaging there is no turnaround time as messages are delivered in real-time to the recipient. For employees and consumers alike, instant messaging allows communications to exchange faster and with more efficiency. With instant messaging there is no message left in the inbox, but rather a message appearing in real-time waiting for a response. In a sense, instant messaging is a conversation taking place in the immediate present, whereas e-mail has the potential to lag behind with the user.
Similar to a text message, instant messaging has the ability to start a conversation that cannot be achieved through e-mail. Oftentimes e-mails get put aside or are ignored due to the sheer amount of them coming into anybody’s inbox. An instant message reaches the recipient like a telephone call, but with less distraction from work. The instant message is perfect for any employee or consumer to communicate effectively and with efficiency.
