Why is your Instant Messenger getting you down?

Whether or not you use an instant messenger at work is partly your decision and partly that of your company. Of course, those who are down on their current application will never want to use it – even if everybody else is doing so. Why is your instant messenger getting you down?

Once you know what type of problem(s) you are facing, you can make the proper changes to ensure that the future is brighter. For instance, a common complaint among IM users is that they cannot form groups within their contact list. This is something that bugs many people, and eventually leads to a downturn in use. Along with this, other people, usually the administrator, worry about the security of a corporate instant messenger. This is definitely something to be concerned with.

Although your current instant messenger may not be right for you, making a change is not as hard as it sounds. It may alter your work situation for a bit, but implementing a new system could greatly benefit you in the long run.

Before you make any change, you need to answer these questions:

1. Why do I want to change instant messaging programs?
2. What do I want in my new instant messenger that the old one did not offer?

By answering these two questions, you will be in better position to make the right decision. In turn, it ensures that the program you choose this time around is the one that you will stick with into the future.
