Why You Want Your IM Program to Stand Alone

When Gtalk first came along I thought it was great. No fuss about signing into my IM separately, no extra program taking up hard drive space, it sounded great.

For a while, it was great, in theory. Then I started to populate the contacts list.

Big Mistake.

Quickly the negatives of having IM in your email came to bear. To save you from the same pains here are the reasons why you don’t want IM in your email.

1. There will be no such thing as “Just a quick email check” anymore. Every time you sign in you will have messages from your friends.

2. Your concentration will be broken. Forget about writing long emails and being able to sound intelligent with ease. You will have to work 3 times harder to get the same results.

3. If you turn on the away message, to get some privacy, your friends will begin to wonder why you are avoiding them all of the time.

Just another good reason why you should choose the option that takes a bit more short term work (but really, how much work is installing a program) but will save you a lot of frustration and annoyance in the long term.
